Dance Works Curriculum

Ballet (6 years - Advanced)  Ballet is considered the foundation of artistic dance.  Its meticulous attention to technical detail makes it invaluable for any dancer.  Combining proper alignment and body placement, seamless transitions through standard arm, leg, and feet position along with astute sense of timing, trains dancers to be clean, versatile performers.

Pre-Ballet, Tap & Tumble (3 & 4 years) and Primary Ballet, Tap & Tumble (5 years) These classes teach boys and girls the fundamentals of ballet and tap dance while incorporating creative movement and tumbling.  The diversity of these classes holds even the busiest child's attention.

Pointe (12 years -Advanced ) Intermediate to advanced level ballet dancer.  This discipline is intricate & challenging, yet extremely beautiful.  Prerequisite:  Must have Director's approval.

Tap (6 years - Advanced)  Tap is a smooth and intricate yet percussive and stylish form of dance.  Excellent for motor skills and rhythms!

Jazz (6 years - Advanced)  Although no one can pinpoint it's beginning, both Broadway and Hollywood have made these types of dance big on stage and on screen.  Jazz combines leaps, turns and jumps which create a technical style of dance.

Modern & Lyrical (8 years - Advanced)  A style of dance that is very grounded and favors movement driving from the expression of inner feelings.  Prerequisite:  Ballet & Jazz experience.

Hip Hop (6 years - Advanced) & (Primary 4&5yr) Hip Hop is a blend of today's high energy "street style" movement.  This form of dance has been sought after by teen, preteens, and the "young at heart".

Tumble (5 years  - Teen) Structured acrobatic movements for students in order to learn the fundamentals of tumbling and stunt movement.  This will provide strength training and proper stretching techniques.

Musical Theatre (6 years - 18 years)  Singing, Dancing, and acting all wrapped up into one!  Introduces young people to the world of lifte on-stage and behind the scenes. This is for you triple threats out there! 

Adult Classes (Age 18 & Beyond) Offered in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, and Hip Hop.  Its never to late to try these exciting classes!

Bikram Yoga, the original Hot Yoga, is a series of 26 postures and breathing exercises which strengthens and stretches the body from the inside out. Scientifically proven to tone internal organs, Yoga provides deep, systemic cleansing. The warm room allows the body to be more flexible, relieves arthritic pains, balances hormones, metabolizes fat,  improves endurance, enhances the immune system, regulates body temperature, helps reduce back pain, relieves stress, normalizes blood pressure, boosts the mood, and creates mental clarity. Drink plenty of water and bring a mat and bath towel to class.

Yoga at the Barre is an entertaining mix of Yoga, Dance, Pilates and Toning. This class is designed to lengthen and strengthen the body. With a concentration on core stability and flexibility, Yoga at the Barre, helps to develop balance. Using the key concepts of breath and posture, students can harness their own healing and powerful energy in class and in everyday life. Come try out and get hooked on this exciting form of body/mind exercise.

Zumba - Exotic rhythms set to high energy Latin and international beats.  Before participants know it, they're getting fit and their energy levels are soaring!  It's easy to do, effective and totally exhilarating, often building a deep-rooted community amoung returning students.

Elementary Choir (Ages 5-8) This is an excellent opportunity for your child to participate in a vocal ensemble geared towards building music, performance and teamwork skills. Children will warm up as a group, and learn to sing songs together.   Students will be taught unison singing, some basic music reading, principals of healthy and age appropriate vocal technique and performance etiquette, while having fun in a group setting.

Middle Choir (Ages 9-13) This is a perfect class for students just getting their feet wet, or those wanting additional performing experience, outside of private lessons. The Junior Choir will work on 2 and three part harmonies. All students will learn some basic music theory, principals of singing, and performance techniques.

Ready Set ACT! Drama Classes: Elementary Drama (Grades K - 3) The first step to understanding what acting is all about while learning acting & theatre fundamentals in a fun, supportive and creative atmosphere. Children use theatre games, storytelling and role-playing to stretch their imaginations and discover the endless creativity in themselves.

Young Actors Drama –Middle Class (Grades 5 -8) Kids learn the fundamentals of acting in a fun, supportive and creative atmosphere. Through theatre games and improvisation, students concentrate on the basics of acting: “the who, where, why and how”. Students will then apply these concepts to basic scene work.
